The North Pole Express
Way back in August I saw an advertisement on Facebook for Grapevine's North Pole Express I immediately went and bought tickets for this past weekend for Ronnie, Ellington and I. Ronnie's favorite Christmas movie is the Polar Express which this train ride is loosely based on. I always enjoyed the book but the movie with Tom Hanks totally weirded me out. Weird animation and I just couldn't get into it.
I wasn't sure if the train ride was supposed to be PJ's only or if we could wear regular clothes. My dad and stepmom bought Ellington an adorable Santa top and polka dot leggings so she wore that and Ronnie and I found our most Christmas-y tops. When we got to the train ride area we saw a good mix of kiddos in pjs and a few in their Christmas dresses.
The boarding process was great and there was only a 5 minute wait to get to our assigned seats. We lucked out and got the front seat so no one was facing us. There was a cute christmas tree decorated in front of us as well as garland the length of the train on the ceiling. They had christmas carols playing during the entire ride and an elf walking around to help with any questions. After a while we stopped to let Mrs. Clause on the train and she came and visited each child to take a photo and pass out a silver bell.
Ellington LOVED Mrs. Clause and her silver bell. She was so happy shaking it the rest of the train ride. She enjoyed looking at all the decorations and lights on the tree. When we finally got to the North Pole we got off the train and walked through a maze of real Christmas trees that smelled AMAZING and snow!! Everyone was so excited and taking photos everywhere. Ellington didn't seem to care about the snow but was enamored by the Christmas trees. She kept trying to touch them and stare.
We had such a great time and plan on making this a yearly Christmas tradition for our family. I can only imagine in a year or two how magical it will all seem for Ellington.
